After seeing MIB3
After seeing the movie now I really could take a full grasp on the score itself. It actually works quite beautifully throughout the film! To my surprise, the goofy drum beats I stated earlier were much more hidden and really contributed a fair amount to the film. As a score on it’s own, I still wouldn’t give it more than a 7/10, as I stated before. However due to how well it works with...

MIB 3 Score
This year of 2012 Danny Elfman has composed a score for the upcoming MIB movie, in theaters now. I have listened to the score in its entirety and am not very impressed.  Let me begin by stating that I have not yet seen the movie, so I am assuming this score will work much better with the movie. This critique is strictly on how the score holds on its own.  The score isn’t awful, though...

A jedi
As far as I am concerned no matter how old I get, or how busy, or how involved with a composition project, Star Wars will always be there for me. Holding and caressing me with love and affection. Even at the ripe age of twenty-one I still embrace my goofy smile and giddy feeling when around anything Star Wars. Even when holding a lightsaber prop, whether it be an FX, parks saber, or just a cheap...

Misunderstanding
I am constantly misunderstood where I reside and can’t help but wonder why it’s so hard to grasp. I may be talking through a large head at this moment, but I feel I understand their ideas fine and can’t help but wonder maybe it’s my speech that is the confusing part. Is it my concepts? I am frustrated with this place and am sick of being laughed at like I am the one without...

University
As I sit in one of my least favorite classes I can’t help but wonder…how in the hell do some of these people function? I mean seriously…is this university accepting everyone with a heartbeat. I have seen circus bears with more potential than some of these people… I sound very judgemental and snobbish, I know…but honestly university is an establishment for higher...

Boxes
Dark boxes held in sight, keys hidden away for fright or sharing such a gloomy frost, chilling to the mind so distraught.  Inexorable need to scream cry yell but it is the mind that shatters glass and opens  boxes And drool drips down the face showing no sign of distaste with an open cry  a whisper, mentality overrun.

How nice
The end of tour. Boyfriends, Girlfriends, wives, parents, loved ones, best friends. The day home from tour there are people surrounding the bus to picked up all their loved ones. As I drove home I smile and say…how nice.

Tease
Within the small grains of grey colored glass, hues of black and white surely seep. Though while the mind is longing to travel back, alas the duty is still incomplete. Dreams are empty where the pillow lay, in a strangers place of residence.  I find myself in disarray, though I know it won’t be permanent.  Pity not, nor feel sorry, nor pray for my troubles, I beg of thee please. ...

To her I miss
I miss her during the day while I walk through distant lands, I miss her in the evenings when eating a midnight snack. Through the weekend, the week, the month and year, I miss her every day Because she’s not here.  (I am excited to come home! I miss her dreadfully so!)

On tour- Day 4
As of now this tour is going very well. I have eaten far too much and enjoyed a bit of it. However I dreadfully miss the love of my life, my family, my friends at home, and my bed. Oh how I miss my bed, I haven’t received a decent amount of sleep yet on tour.  Enough complaining, tomorrow is another great day. Early as usual, but the early bird plays the concert… The Euphonium Calls

Shadow's Pursuit- Composer's Commentary
Though it has been a few months since the composition itself has been finished, I have just recently finished the playback recording to send to potential groups to premiere my piece. From where I am sitting, “Shadow’s Pursuit” is a very average concert band piece. The form is easy to follow as are the chord progressions. However this is a programmatic piece, as are most of my...

Little Red- A composer's thoughts
A new piece is finished, and I must say this is at the top of my list of favorite compositions of mine. Little Red, based on Grimm’s Fairy Tale, is a twist of the usual story. The music has a dark waltz like feel for the beginning theme and moves through different modulations throughout the piece. It is both unsettling and powerful, as brass, woodwinds, percussion, and Harp all come together...

Frustration
I find it funny that a trip to the grocery store, a cute song, and a nice man can really remind you of what really matters. Though I was offended earlier, this chain of events has calmed me down and for the most part placed my mind at ease.

Another Rough Draft complete this evening.
I feel rather accomplished as I sit drinking a Coca-Cola at Chrystel’s apartment at 11:05 pm on a thursday evening. Since October I have been working on a composition based on my interpretation of Grimm’s Fairy tale, Little Red Cap, and I finally made the ending this evening.  Though the work has a bit more to do I feel confident that so much effort and work was worth it and see...

After a few hours:
I finished reading the entire H.R.1540, also known as the:   National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012.  Now as I read I can see maybe a few places where people could get confused and angry about…but to be completely honest logically this is a pretty basic bill that I can’t see any reason for anyone to truly be upset. It was almost like reading a inventory guide saying...

H.R.1540
I have noticed quite an abundance of complaining to the H.R.1540 Bill, and as I read it I really am unable to see what the fuss is about. I am only through a minute portion, but so far it all seems pretty self explanatory and nothing really groundbreaking or disturbing. However I’ll keep reading and seeing what I find.

Update on the newest composition
working on my composition I can’t help but not know how I want to end it. Sorrowful? Maybe she doesn’t come out of it. A dark triumph perhaps with the wolf celebrating his victory over the hunter. Or should I have a triumph over the wolf by said hunter. Hmmm decisions decisions. Anyone have an opinion on an ending for this musical telling of Little Red Cap?

This new years
This new years I want but one thing, A kiss from the only woman I’ll ever love. She glows in the moonlight, with flawless beauty, She is the only woman I’ll ever love. When the clock rings of twelve notes in a row, I’ll be longing for that same said thing. A kiss from the only woman I’ll ever love, because nothing is worth more to me. -Stephen Wood (I may have to wait...

Immaturity
Immaturity doesn’t mean you know how to have fun, it means you don’t know how to act like an adult. I hate that people think I’m lame because I don’t get giggly at every chance possible, because I don’t get into certain things. I agree sometimes I am being a stick in the mud but I must say in general maturity doesn’t mean I don’t have fun. I laugh at...
